People are always looking to save money on a surf trip. Usually saving a bit of cash leads to more time at the location which means more water time (thats the point right?)

So the question always becomes whats the best option for a cheap surf vacation? Well, there are a few ways…for the purposes of this post I want to focus on how to save time and money with accommodations. Furthermore, the strategy we will present will help elevate the surf travel experience even though it helps facilitate a cheap surf vacation.

So how do the numbers break out for my cheap surf vacation?

Hmm.lets say you stay at an average hotel in Guiones, Costa Rica in March for a week for 3 people. The “Average Rate” on Expedia, as of March 2014, it is $164/night or just over $1500 to book this for the week (and don’t forget this a basic hotel space, not lots of room, shared rooms and bathrooms, no kitchen etc), not a terrible split between 3 people and if you bump up to a bit more spacious suite you are looking at just over $2200 as an average rate.

On the other hand a 3-4 person whole house in the area will run around $750 for the week .basically half the rate so if I run some quick math surf travelers can stay 2 times as long for the same budget (or save half the funds to allocate to other fun activities and their next cheap surf vacation)”Yes Please”, if guests they can really live it up at a luxury shag pad for the same price as a lame hotel “Clearly there are discounts here for you guests up to 50% or more savings.

Most people, make it a bit more complicated than it needs to be, in fact your cheap surf vacation does not have to be like Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in the toilet, it can be a lot more and facilitate some epic memories.

Here’s to the cheap surf vacation!! Boom. If you have any additional ideas please contribute them in the comment’s box or send an email to mike@live-swell.com.
